Course Description

Modern Teaching Methods, Classroom Management & Safety Instruction is an advanced continuing education course for cosmetology educators. The course focuses on effective teaching methods, educational psychology, lesson planning, adult learning, student engagement, classroom and clinic-floor management, assessment, feedback, sanitation instruction, professional ethics, and student safety. The course is designed to help cosmetology teachers create learning environments that are organized, inclusive, professionally relevant, and focused on measurable student learning.

Learning Objectives

  • Apply basic educational psychology principles to cosmetology education.
  • Identify differences in student readiness, motivation, and learning needs.
  • Develop measurable learning objectives.
  • Select appropriate teaching methods for theory and practical instruction.
  • Demonstrate effective methods for teaching technical procedures.
  • Apply classroom and clinic-floor management strategies.
  • Provide constructive feedback and evaluate student performance consistently.
  • Integrate sanitation and client-safety instruction throughout cosmetology education.
  • Apply professional boundaries, ethics, and documentation practices as an educator.

Course Outline

  1. Module 1. Module 1 — Educational Psychology & Effective Teaching

    Adult learning, motivation, measurable objectives, lesson planning and methods for theory versus practical instruction. Target: 60 minutes.

  2. Module 2. Module 2 — Classroom, Clinic-Floor & Student Management

    Expectations, clinic-floor supervision, difficult situations and inclusive, professional learning environments. Target: 60 minutes.

  3. Module 3. Module 3 — Assessment, Safety Instruction & Educator Professionalism

    Assessment design, constructive feedback, sanitation and client-safety instruction, ethics, boundaries and documentation. Target: 60 minutes.

  • Module 3 — Assessment, Safety Instruction & Educator Professionalism (60 minutes)

Completion Requirements

  • Complete all 15 required lessons in sequence, submit all required knowledge checks, pass the 20-question final examination with a score of 80% or higher, and submit the program and instructor evaluation. Illinois CE credit and an official Certificate of Attendance are issued only after Illinois CE Sponsor approval.

Examination: 20 multiple-choice questions · 80% to pass · up to 3 attempts. Students who do not reach 80% should review the course materials before retaking the examination.
