Course Description

Infection Control, Disinfection & Illinois Salon Safety is a continuing education course for licensed Illinois beauty professionals. The course reviews how infections spread in salon settings, the difference between cleaning, disinfection and sterilization, correct use of EPA-registered disinfectants, implement and workstation protocols, blood and body-fluid exposure procedures, laundry and waste handling, ventilation, and the documentation practices that demonstrate compliance during inspection.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe how bacteria, viruses and fungi are transmitted in salon settings.
  • Distinguish cleaning, disinfection and sterilization and apply each correctly.
  • Select and use EPA-registered disinfectants according to label directions and contact time.
  • Apply correct implement, tool and workstation protocols between clients.
  • Follow blood and body-fluid exposure procedures safely.
  • Manage laundry, waste, ventilation and product storage safely.
  • Maintain sanitation documentation that supports inspection readiness.

Completion Requirements

  • Complete all 15 required lessons in sequence, submit all required knowledge checks, pass the 20-question final examination with a score of 80% or higher, and submit the program and instructor evaluation.

Examination: 20 multiple-choice questions · 80% to pass · up to 3 attempts. Students who do not reach 80% should review the course materials before retaking the examination.
