Course Description

Advanced Salon Safety, Chemical Services & Client Protection is an advanced continuing education course designed to strengthen a licensed cosmetologist's ability to make safe and professional service decisions involving salon chemicals, sanitation, implements, equipment, hair and scalp observations, client consultation, documentation, incident response, and salon safety systems. The course emphasizes prevention, professional judgment, manufacturer instructions, scope of practice, client protection, and consistent salon procedures.

Learning Objectives

  • Explain how pH and chemical interactions affect professional cosmetology service decisions.
  • Identify practices that reduce chemical, biological, thermal, and mechanical exposure risks.
  • Apply cleaning, disinfection, single-use, and cross-contamination prevention principles.
  • Evaluate safe use and condition of common salon implements and equipment.
  • Use hair and scalp observations and client history to support scope-appropriate service decisions.
  • Apply consultation, documentation, incident-response, and salon-management practices that protect clients and beauty professionals.

Course Outline

  1. Module 1. Module 1 — Advanced Chemical Safety & Product Chemistry

    Product chemistry, pH, oxidation and overlapping services, Safety Data Sheets, storage and exposure reduction. Module target: 60 minutes.

  2. Module 2. Module 2 — Sanitation, Implements & Salon Safety

    Cleaning versus disinfection, cross-contamination control, linens and single-use items, equipment inspection and incident response. Module target: 60 minutes.

  3. Module 3. Module 3 — Client Protection, Hair/Scalp Assessment & Professional Practice

    Hair and scalp observation within scope, consultation and service history, communication and consent, documentation and salon management. Module target: 60 minutes.

Completion Requirements

  • Complete all 15 required lessons in sequence, pass the 20-question post-course examination with a score of 80% or higher, and submit the program and instructor evaluation. Illinois CE credit and an official Certificate of Attendance are issued only after Illinois CE Sponsor approval.

Examination: 20 multiple-choice questions · 80% to pass · up to 3 attempts. Students who do not reach 80% should review the course materials before retaking the examination.
