Course Description

Advanced Nail Safety, Chemical Awareness & Infection Prevention is a 3-hour continuing education course designed for licensed nail professionals. The course strengthens professional knowledge involving infection prevention, cleaning and disinfection, cross-contamination, nail-service chemicals, product handling, ventilation, equipment safety, nail and surrounding-skin observation, client consultation, scope of practice, documentation, incident response, and professional salon management. The emphasis throughout the course is client protection and safe professional decision-making.

Learning Objectives

  • Distinguish cleaning from disinfection and explain their roles in nail-service safety.
  • Identify common pathways for cross-contamination in nail services.
  • Apply appropriate procedures for reusable and single-use implements.
  • Explain important chemical-safety principles for professional nail products.
  • Use SDS information, labeling, storage, and ventilation practices appropriately.
  • Recognize observable nail or surrounding-skin concerns that may require a service to be modified or postponed.
  • Remain within professional scope when encountering possible health-related concerns.
  • Apply consultation, documentation, incident-response, and salon-management practices that support client safety.

Course Outline

  1. Module 1. Module 1 — Infection Prevention, Sanitation & Cross-Contamination

    Why infection prevention matters, cleaning versus disinfection, implements and single-use items, workstation and pedicure-area cross-contamination. Module target: 60 minutes.

  2. Module 2. Module 2 — Nail Product Chemistry, Exposure Control & Equipment Safety

    Professional nail product chemistry, Safety Data Sheets and labeling, ventilation and exposure reduction, electrical and mechanical equipment safety. Module target: 60 minutes.

  3. Module 3. Module 3 — Client Assessment, Scope & Professional Practice

    Nail and surrounding-skin observation, modifying or postponing a service, client consultation, documentation, incident response and salon management. Module target: 60 minutes.

Completion Requirements

  • Complete all 15 required lessons in sequence, submit all required knowledge checks, pass the 20-question final examination with a score of 80% or higher, and submit the program and instructor evaluation. Illinois CE credit and an official Certificate of Attendance are issued only after Illinois CE Sponsor approval.

Examination: 20 multiple-choice questions · 80% to pass · up to 3 attempts. Students who do not reach 80% should review the course materials before retaking the examination.
